top 5 books that have shaped my mindset in the past 10 months

Being a social media manager for small businesses comes with its own set of challenges. With constantly evolving platforms and strategies, it can be overwhelming to keep up with the fast-paced digital world. As someone who takes great pride in my work, I am always on the lookout for fresh ideas to make my business more efficient and organized. In the past 10 months, I have read numerous books that have helped me enhance my skills and stay ahead of the game. Here, I have listed 5 of my top reads that have greatly influenced my approach towards managing social media for small businesses.

1. Unfiltered by Rachel Pedersen

This book peels back the curtain on social media and reveals the raw truth about success in the digital world. Pedersen's personal story serves as a roadmap for entrepreneurs who dare to bare it all online.

  • Key takeaway: Authenticity trumps all in the world of social media. Being unfiltered can build a loyal community around your brand.

  • My rating: A must-read for every entrepreneur seeking success in the digital world.

  • Would buy it again and I have bought several of her courses!

2. Never Split the Difference by Chris Voss

A former international hostage negotiator for the FBI offers a new field-tested approach to high-stakes negotiations—whether in the boardroom or at home.

  • Key takeaway: Effective negotiation techniques can yield better business deals.

  • My rating: For anyone involved in any type of negotiation, this book is an invaluable resource.

  • Would buy it again, I’ve actually already read it twice!

3. How to Keep House While Drowning

This is not your traditional self-help book. It provides actionable steps on how to deal with everyday overwhelming tasks. It belongs on this list because all business owners, especially women, have to wear so many hats in the office and outside of it.

  • Key takeaway: Develop effective strategies to manage stress and prevent burnout.

  • My rating: An essential read for entrepreneurs juggling countless responsibilities

  • This book challenged my idea of perfection and time management. It taught me to choose how I spend my time and let go of feeling bad about the rest!

4. Atomic Habits by James Clear

Atomic Habits is a step-by-step manual for changing routines and achieving personal and professional goals.

  • Key takeaway: Small habits can have a big impact on your success.

  • My rating: A guide for those looking to break free from unproductive habits.

I don't know if I would buy this again. It has great ideas but the book is repetitive, I think he was stretching to fill the book. I will however sign up for his e-newsletter and report back!

5. Profit First by Mike Michalowicz

Michalowicz provides a simple system to transform any business from a cash-eating monster to a money-making machine.

  • Key takeaway: Implementing a 'profit first' strategy can revolutionize your business financials.

  • My rating: A must-read if you want to take control of your business finances.

Mike's book was great, I don't have the capital to relate to his solutions yet but I am excited to have read this before I run into any trouble.

These gems have offered insights that I've applied in my business and personal life with great success. What about you? Have you read any of these? Or perhaps you have your own treasure trove of business book recommendations? Let's start the conversation.
